Employment Opportunities

The Mar-Mac Unified Law Enforcement District is accepting applications for the following position(s).

2024 Annual Report

The Mar-Mac Police Department operates as part of the Mar-Mac Unified Law Enforcement District, encompassing the cities of Marquette and McGregor in northeast Clayton County, Iowa.  Currently, the department is funded for three full-time officers and employs part-time/reserve officers on an as-needed basis.

Situated along the banks of the Mississippi River, the cities of Marquette and McGregor serve as home to a year-round population of 1,163 (based on the 2020 census), which significantly swells during the summer months.  Given our geographical location, the police district experiences substantial growth in its transient population and commuters daily.  This growth is attributed to numerous factors, including the proximity to neighboring Prairie du Chien, WI (with a population of 5,506 as per the 2020 US Census), local employers, area attractions, nearby festivals, and a state and federal highway with an approximate daily traffic of 4,500 vehicles.

Covering approximately 3.11 square miles, the police department’s patrol area is the largest in geographical terms among all the police departments in Clayton County, leading to the highest volume of calls for service in the county.  The district also encompasses or borders significant natural landmarks, such as the Mississippi River, Bloody Run Creek, Pikes Peak State Park (welcoming around 300,000 annual visitors), Effigy Mounds National Monument, and Bloody Run County Park/Wildlife Management Area.

We are actively seeking applicants who are committed to collaboration and dedicated to serving the communities with dignity, integrity, and professionalism.

Interested candidates should submit an application online or to the address below.

Deadline: Ongoing (Part-Time/Reserve)
