On Saturday, July 26, 2025, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Mar-Mac Police Department after a deputy received a Snapchat video confirming that Travis Patrick Nelson, from Dubuque, Iowa, an individual with three active arrest warrants in Iowa, was staying at a vacation rental in McGregor.
Mar-Mac police officers observed an individual appearing to be Nelson approach and mount a maroon Harley-Davidson motorcycle in McGregor. Officers attempted to confirm the identity of the individual, who repeatedly provided a false name. When asked to step off the motorcycle, the individual fled the scene at a high rate of speed.
The pursuit continued through the city of McGregor before exiting on State Highway 76 and entered the city of Marquette, with Nelson traveling at speeds reaching approximately 82 mph in a posted 45 mph zone.
Nelson proceeded west on Marquette Drive before failing to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of U.S. Highway 18. He then lost control of the motorcycle and collided with an eastbound vehicle.
Nelson was taken into custody at Taser point after initially refusing commands but ultimately complied. He was evaluated on scene by medical personnel but declined transport for minor injuries.
Nelson was arrested on the active Iowa warrants and transported to the Clayton County Jail without further incident.
Nelson is charged with the following offenses: Eluding – Speed Over 25 MPH Above Limit (Class D Felony), Reckless Driving (Simple Misdemeanor), Driving While Suspended (Simple Misdemeanor), Speeding (Simple Misdemeanor), and Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device (Simple Misdemeanor).
All charges are allegations. All individual(s) are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
