On April 27, 2025, at approximately 7:01 a.m., the Mar-Mac Police Department was notified of a train derailment in the City of Marquette.
The train, operated by Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC), consisted of 129 cars and was traveling through the 1st Street (Highway 76) crossing when five cars derailed. Fortunately, the only damage resulting from the derailment was to the railroad track itself. No hazardous materials were involved, and no injuries were reported.
The 1st Street crossing was temporarily closed to allow for recovery and track repair operations. The crossing was safely reopened at approximately 1:18 p.m.
We thank the public for their patience and cooperation during this incident. The Mar-Mac Police Department continues to work with CPKC and local agencies to ensure public safety.
The initial response to the scene included assistance from the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the Iowa State Patrol, the McGregor Hook and Ladder Company, and the CPKC Police Service.
