Police Respond to Drowning Report

On July 26, 2023, at approximately 11:23 pm, the Mar-Mac Police Department responded to the City of McGregor’s riverfront for a reported drowning.

The initial report into the Clayton County Communications Center stated two males had fallen out of a boat into the Mississippi River. One male was recovered while the second male was not.

During the investigation it was determined that an altercation between the two males had occurred while inside the boat. During their altercation, both males had fallen into the river. After assisting one male back into the boat, the second male swam to shore and walked to a nearby hotel. The second male’s departure to the shore resulted in the initial drowning report as the boat party had lost contact with the second male.

The Mar-Mac Police Department was assisted by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Also responding to the scene included the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, MarMac Rescue Squad, and McGregor Hook & Ladder Co. No 1 .
