Center Street Accident

On September 16, 2019, at approximately 4:35 pm, Mar-Mac Police was notified of an injury accident on Center Street, in McGregor.

A 1999 Sterling LT9500, operated by Daniel C. Gingerich, from McGregor, was traveling south on Cemetery Road when the crane truck experienced brake failure as it traversed downhill.

The crane truck traveled through the Center Street intersection colliding with an embankment in front of a residence causing the truck to go airborne and landing on a 2004 Chevrolet Impala.  The momentum of the collision continued into an adjoining property striking a 1995 Chevrolet S10 and a 1996 Mazda Mia before coming to a rest on its passenger side.

The accident resulted in minor injuries to Gingerich and his passenger.

At the conclusion of an Iowa Department of Transportation inspection, Gingerich was found to be in violation of No Proof of Current Annual Inspection, Less Than 2/32 Tire Tread, and Brakes out of Service – 3 of 6 Brakes out of Adjustment.

At the conclusion of the motor vehicle investigation, Gingerich was cited for Fail to Maintain Control, Fail to Obey Stop Sign, and Driving an Unsafe Vehicle.
