Local Information for the July 4th Celebration

Private Fireworks in Marquette / McGregor:

The sale and use of fireworks are prohibited in the cities of Marquette (41.12) and McGregor (41.11), unless permitted by the city council. The definition of a firework is any explosive composition, or combination of explosive substances, or articles prepared for the purpose of producing a visible or audible effect by combustion, explosion, deflagration or detonation, and specifically includes blank cartridges, firecrackers, torpedoes, skyrockets, roman candles, or other fireworks of like construction and any fireworks containing any explosive or flammable compound, or other device containing any explosive substance. Violation of this ordinance is punishable as a simple misdemeanor.

Marquette July 4th Celebration:

With the current COVID-19 pandemic, the Marquette City Council decided to cancel the annual parade and to continue with the firework display. The fireworks will be discharged from the top of the bluff behind City Hall. The show will begin around dusk.

After the celebration, US Highway 18 will experience significant congestion due to the bridge construction and the increase vehicle traffic. The movement of traffic on US Highway 18 will be in accordance with the on-site traffic signals. Police Officers will be directing traffic at the following intersections (officers may be reassigned based on traffic flow):

• US Highway 18 at Pleasant Ridge Road

• US Highway 18 at Marquette Drive (on/off ramp)

• State Highway 76 (1st Street) at Marquette Drive (on/off ramp)

To reduce the congestion on State Highway 76 (underneath the bridge), motorists traveling to Wisconsin are encouraged to travel through McGregor and enter US Highway 18 from State Highway 76 (Business Highway 18) before returning to Marquette.

Motorist who will be traveling west on US Highway 18 (toward Monona), are also encourage travel through McGregor and enter US Highway 18 from State Highway 76 (Business Highway 18).

Parking:

With the current bridge construction and river traffic, parking will be limited underneath the bridge and along the river front.

Weather permitting, parking will be available on the grass between the Driftless Area Wetlands Centre and the wastewater facility. The entrance is across from Gencor. A second location will be south of the US Highway 18 and Pleasant Ridge Road intersection.

Parking is PROHIBITED along shoulder of US Highway 18 and Marquette Drive (on/off ramp). Violators will be ordered to move. Violation of this ordinance is punishable as a simple misdemeanor.
