Mar-Mac Police Investigates Stolen Vehicles

On June 13, 2019, at approximately 11:07 pm, Mar-Mac Police responded to a residence on Garnavillo Avenue, in McGregor, for a reported stolen vehicle.

As the officer was speaking to the reporting party, a nearby neighbor approached the officer and reported their vehicle had also been stolen.

At approximately 11:24 pm, Mar-Mac Police received information from the Waukon Police Department that one of the reported stolen vehicles had been involved in a gas theft at Kwik Star.  After reviewing available digital media, the driver was identified and additional information was released to nearby law enforcement agencies.

At approximately 2:44 am, Mar-Mac Police received information from the Caledonia, Minnesota Police Department that the stolen vehicle involved in the gas theft had been located and the driver was in custody.

Tristan L. Close, of McGregor, was arrested by the Caledonia Police Department on Minnesota charges related to this incident and active Minnesota warrants.  Complaint and affidavits were submitted accusing Close of Theft 2nd Degree (Class D Felony) and Driving While License Suspended (Simple Misdemeanor).  A warrant for Close’s arrest was requested for extradition to Iowa.

The incident remains under investigation and the second stolen vehicle was recovered the following day abandoned in McGregor.

Assisting in the investigation was the Waukon Police Department, the Caledonia Police Department, the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, the Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Criminalistics Laboratory.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
