April 2020 Activity and Arrest Summary

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

On April 1, 2020, at approximately 10:22 am, Mar-Mac Police was notified of a scam received by a McGregor resident on West Main Street.  The resident received a telephone call from a representative claiming to be from the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office with an 855-201 telephone number.  The resident recognized the telephone call as fraudulent and immediately hung up.  If anyone believes they have been a victim of fraudulent activities, please call the Mar-Mac Police Department at (563) 873-2500, or additional information can be found online at www.consumer.ftc.gov.

On April 3, 2020, at approximately 1:30 pm, Mar-Mac Police investigated a two-vehicle personal injury accident on US Highway 18, at Marquette Drive.  A 2008 Ford F150 was legally stopped at a stop sign waiting to perform a right turn onto US Highway 18 until it was rear-ended by a 2013 Ford Escape.  The passenger in the Ford F150 was transported to a medical facility in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin by Mar-Mac Rescue.  Mary E. Willie, from Harpers Ferry, Iowa, was cited for Following Too Close.

On April 6, 2020, at approximately 7:36 pm, Mar-Mac Police investigated a burglary at an apartment on Main Street, in McGregor.  At an unknown time since November 2019, the victim’s firearm went missing.  The firearm was entered into NCIC as stolen. 

On April 7, 2020, at approximately 10:58 am, Mar-Mac Police investigated a burglary at a business on Main Street, in McGregor.  Sometime within the last month, an unknown person entered the business and stole merchandise.

On April 7, 2020, at approximately 4:43 pm, Mar-Mac Police investigated a harassment complaint between neighbors on Main Street, in McGregor.  Both parties were advised to keep to themselves.  The neighbor who is subject to the complaint was warned to cease contact with the victim or be subject to citations and/or an arrest.

On April 7, 2020, at approximately 11:57 pm, Mar-Mac Police investigated a disturbance between neighbors on Walton Street, in McGregor.  The complainant reported the neighbor appeared to be drunk, was yelling and urinating outside, and made threats toward a business.  Upon contacting the individual, the individual had consumed alcoholic beverages and was upset.  The threats were determined to be unfounded.

On April 14, 2020, at approximately 4:10 pm, Mar-Mac Police investigated a harassment complaint occurring on the social media website Facebook.  During the investigation, it was determined the offense occurred in Manchester, Iowa.  The complainant was advised to contact their local law enforcement agency.

On April 19, 2020, at approximately 8:59 pm, Mar-Mac Police was notified by the Canadian Pacific Railroad of a suspected anhydrous leak in Marquette.  During the investigation it was determined the suspected anhydrous leak was near Mason City, Iowa.  Responding to the scene included the McGregor Hook and Ladder Company, the Mar-Mac Rescue, the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol, and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

On April 24, 2020, at approximately 3:48 pm, Mar-Mac Police investigated an assault that occurred at an apartment on Main Street, in McGregor.  During the investigation, it was determined a feud between a landlord and tenant had escalated.   Both parties accused each other of various offenses.  After speaking with both parties, both parties agreed to avoid each other.  The landlord was advised to properly follow the landlord/tenant laws.
